Luxury hospitality continues to grow in South America. Bariloche, in the Argentine Patagonia, is adding new international properties, while São Luís and other destinations in Brazil are receiving investments that highlight regions still little explored by international tourism.

Bariloche: new international hotels in Patagonia

Bariloche is once again attracting major hotel chains. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts announced two new properties that expand the high-end accommodation offering in one of the main destinations in Argentine Patagonia.

The Dazzler by Wyndham Bariloche Centro It is scheduled to open in December 2026 on Avenida Bustillo. It will feature 40 rooms and will cater to both leisure tourism and the corporate segment.

On a larger scale, a new 205-room Wyndham It is projected for 2028 in Solares del Este. The complex will include a spa, heated swimming pool, gym, private parking, and residences.

The openings reinforce a clear trend: Bariloche is evolving as an international luxury destination, combining lakes, mountains, and nature experiences with an increasingly sophisticated hotel offering.

For those of us who design trips in Argentina, this expands the possibilities of incorporating Bariloche into luxury itineraries for Patagonia, beyond its traditional adventure and nature profile.

Brazil: new hotels in destinations with identity

Brazil is also preparing a major hotel expansion. The Portuguese chain Vila Galé announced eight new properties, with a special focus on destinations that combine heritage, culture, and nature.

One of the most interesting openings will be the Vila Galé Collection Ópera, scheduled for October 25, 2026, in the historic center of Sao Luis, Maranhao, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous for its Portuguese colonial architecture and tile-covered facades.

This project will also be joined by Vila Galé Collection Poesia, also in São Luís, in addition to new properties in other destinations in Brazil.

Connectivity will also accompany this growth: TAP Air Portugal plans to connect Lisbon and São Luís, facilitating access from Europe to a region that still remains off many international itineraries.

For inbound tourism, São Luís is gaining appeal as a gateway to a different side of Brazil: colonial heritage, local culture, and new luxury hotels, far from the more traditional circuits.

A new geography of luxury in South America

Bariloche and São Luís represent two completely different landscapes, but they share a trend: International hotel investment is looking beyond South America's established destinations.

For the traveler, it means new ways to discover Argentine Patagonia and Brazil. For those of us who design tailor-made travel, it means more options to create sophisticated itineraries in destinations with a strong local identity.
